Surprise and enchantment!
Studies have shown that riding a bicycle, getting to know Brasilia and making friends, all at the same time, makes anyone feel much more cool than they already are! In the Monumental Axis Bike Tour , you will have a great opportunity to verify this by cycling through a circuit with the most beautiful and expressive architectural works of the great Oscar Niemeyer, the poet of curves, and several masterpieces integrated into his work.
The paternity of the urban sketching is of Lucio Costa, but it was Niemeyer who “reinvented the modernism with its own language and national identity.” The architect always thought of an architecture that would impress not only the building user, but also those who just walked down the street “They will stop to see it – this will be a moment of surprise and enchantment,” he said. What exerted a great influence in the world architecture and that, among other things, appeared in Brasília by the lines of Oscar in a intense way, was the innovation of the lightness of reinforced concrete structures and large void spaces – “There are few cities that exhibit such a continuous presence of the vision and personality of a single architect.”
A Museum of architectural works under the open skies!
Get ready to get to know some of Niemeyer’s most significant works at once. They are all here next to each other in the Monumental Axis.
Talent and geniality carved in concrete!
Niemeyer materialized more than one hundred and sixty jobs in all the four scales of Lucio Costa. The buildings in the Monumental Scale reached worldwide fame and exposed the genius of his work. “It has everything to be admired. Visiting this scale is a privilege. To know it is an unspeakable emotion.”
Landscaping and artworks integrated into the architecture in the capital of Brazil!
On this bike tour you will get to know the meaning and coherence of the unique architectural production of one of the greatest architects of all time and of various artists who have their work integrated into the city’s architecture and urbanism.
“You will see the palaces of Brasilia…
… they may like it or not, but they can never say they have seen anything like it before. ”
– Oscar Niemeyer
We start from our bike rack to the TV Tower in the Monumental Axis, from there you can see the whole route and important maps that explain a lot about Brasilia.
From the TV Tower, we go to the central sectors that are more densely built, closer to each other and have the tallest buildings. There the Gregarious Scale predominates and it is from where the two wings, South and North, arise. The Sectors are the South Commercial, South Hospital Medical Sector, South Entertainment Sector, the Upper Platform of the Central Bus Station, and the National Theater in the North Cultural Sector.
Returning to the Monumental Scale we proceed to the Cultural Complex of the Republic (National Library and Museum), Metropolitan Cathedral, southern part of the Esplanada dos Ministérios, Itamaraty, Praça dos Três Poderes (National Congress, Supreme Federal Court and Planalto Palace), Lucio Costa Hall, Ministry of Justice, northern part of the Esplanade of the Ministries, Central Bus Station of Brasília and, then, we return to the place of exit.
The Monumental Axis Bike Tour will guide you to the busiest part of Brasilia, as if you were at the largest open-air museum of modern architecture in the world!
We can guide in 5 languages and we leaving from Monday to Sunday. The tour price includes bike, helmet (its use is not mandatory in Brazil), and a bottle of water. It does not include any food or other drinks at our stops.
